03.23.2020 – 17.00 – Solidarity race between the USA and China? It’s hard to judge, considering how many of the Chinese donations are actually the result of individual initiatives by companies; and how, on the other hand, the United States have so far preferred to show solidarity only with words.
The last act took place today, when a C-130 of the United States Air Force, which took off from a German base and landed in Aviano, transported a mobile medical system capable of stabilizing up to 40 En-Route patients (ERPSS).
The system provides 10 beds and can support up to 40 patients for up to 24 hours.
It is a type of equipment usually used in war zones, potentially useful in the most affected areas; deployed on two large tents, it is in fact equipped with 7 days of medical supplies.
Usually the ERPSS is set up at the landing camps, so that the patient stays no longer than 72 hours in the tent before being airlifted to the hospital.
The aim is not to completely heal the patient, but to stabilize him and ensure that he can be safely transported elsewhere.
It is therefore not a “long stay” place.
The news comes from a “tweet” of Italy at NATO: “Deeply grateful to our American Allies for their unfailing support in the face of the Covid-19 emergency”.
General Jeff “Cobra” Harrigian, commander of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE), commented that “The Covid-19 pandemic requires us to work with our allies and partners to address the challenges ahead of us together.
“We are working closely with our Italian friends, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. European Command to ensure that the right equipment arrives on time and safely,” said Harrigian.
“It is our privilege to support the Italian response to the Coronavirus and our continued effort reflects the U.S. values of providing assistance where and when it is needed.
