03.13.2020 – 14.45 – “The drop in blood donations, 20% less in the last two weeks, has produced a significant reduction in blood stocks in Friuli Venezia Giulia: if the contraction continues, we will face critical issues.
This was announced by the Governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, together with the vice-governor in charge of Health and Civil Protection, Riccardo Riccardi, stressing that “the transfusion facilities of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region are working together with voluntary blood associations to ensure that donors are properly informed and that bookings to go and donate are complete in both fixed and mobile centers, without creating groups in collection centers“.
“By working together, we will be able to overcome this emergency and guarantee safe transfusion for our patients: the transfusion facilities of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region are constantly monitoring the situation of blood and blood components stocks and are applying – assure Fedriga and Riccardi – the provisions of the Council of Ministers, the National Blood Centre and the FVG Health Authorities to guarantee the safety of donors, patients and health workers”.
The Region recalls that the Ministry of Health has communicated that “blood donation can be considered among the situations of necessity” referred to in the decree of 9 March and consequently the travel of donors who go to donate blood and blood collections in the blood bank are allowed.
Donors who come to donate must be in good health; they must not have had a fever (temperature > 37.5°C), cold, cough, sore throat or difficulty breathing in the last 14 days; they must not have had close contact with a probable or confirmed case of Covid-19 in the last 14 days.
