Costa Victoria, Fedriga: “Too risky. We can’t allow the ship to dock”

23.03.2020 – 15.25 – “In this moment of emergency the safety of citizens and workers have the absolute priority and just for this reason the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, following the provisions of the Region, has expressed its opposition to the docking in the port of Trieste of the Costa Victoria“.
This was stated by the Governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, after discussing with the President of the Authority, Zeno D’Agostino, on the delicate issue of the request for mooring by the cruise ship Costa Victoria.
Fedriga stressed that “that type of ship accommodates thousands of passengers and crew members on board.
Although we understand the difficult situation of the people on board, today we cannot allow the docking and descent into the regional capital of people who have visited many nations during the cruise and who could potentially be unaware carriers of the Coronavirus“.

The Governor explained that “there is currently no clear idea of the situation on board, but in any case the measures imposed by the Government to contain the epidemic do not allow the free movement of people.
Allowing the landing and disembarkation would entail the activation of quarantine measures for thousands of people, further complicating an already difficult situation”.
